These meetings will result in a pilot week of cycling and walking activities covering the 9 days of the October 2005 half term. \par The local cycling clubs will be responsible for specific ventures aimed at encouraging those who do not regularly cycle to do so and or if they cycle already to extend there sphere of activity. \par A large folder has been collated giving details of the numerous current cycling and walking routes in Teignbridge. It was to have been made available at this meeting but this had not proved possible. \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Newton Abbot Town Council Transportation Sub-Committee Meeting}{\f0\fs22\lang2057 \endash The last meeting was not attended by John Hartley as there were no cycling matters on the agenda. \par }{\i\f0\fs22\lang2057 (post meeting note- agenda, minutes etc will be sent to the Secretary as well as JH before each meeting) \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Complaints \endash }{\f0\fs22\lang2057 In May there were 256 complaints regar ding highway matters. 111 covered road and on road cycle routes. 38 were in respect of footpaths and off road cycle routes. Complaints by cyclists are not segregated in the reporting system. There was agreement that some improvements were needed and this will be actioned by PB on behalf of DCC. Present were representatives from the Environmental Agency, Teign bridge District Council and Sustrans. It appears that subject to Sustrans proving that certain obligations are met and that Sustrans can demonstrate that the \ldblquote levels will work\rdblquote and not cause additional flooding. \par Ann Wareham was uneasy about the proposal and said that she had been out to the area and felt that the best option would be to pressure whichever organisation controls the railway line and underbridge and get that segregated to allow joint use. \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Exe Estuary Path}{\f0\fs22\lang2057 \endash Ken Berry reported on a meeting at Powderham Castle regarding opening up the estate for walkers and cyclists. One path, between Starcross and the Country Store, is now open and this keeps cyclists off the often busy A379. The estate will provide a rack for locking cycles at the Country S tore/ cafe. \par Currently it is not possible to open up another path on the other side of the estate but this could be reviewed in the future. \par DCC are giving priority to the path on the Exmouth side of the river. This means that any improvements to the path from Turk Locks to Powderham Church will be delayed till 2007. \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Teign Estuary}{\f0\fs22\lang2057 \endash The section from Newton Abbot to the Passage House Inn and then to Kingsteignton is the priority for this route especially as both Network Rail and Newton Abbot racecourse have ap proved, in principle, a route across their property. \par Due to landowner objections the completion to Teignmouth could well not be achieved till 2008/9. \par It has been established that the proposed development of Teignmouth Docks is not subject to any form of funding agreement (like a 106 agreement). To achieve a route from the British Docks Authority will therefore be down to the pricking of consciences ra ther than legal requirements. \par It is hoped to meet with the BDA and DCC to see if any progress can be made.\tab \tab \tab }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 KR \par \par A380 and New Crossing }{\f0\fs22\lang2057 - The work is on schedule. There are no plans to assist cyclists cross the A380 at Mamhead Cross not get to the bridge ha ving emerged on to the A380 via lanes some 1.5 miles away from the bridge. This is disappointing. \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Wolborough Street Development}{\f0\fs22\lang2057 \endash Graham Heath had left a message that it was too soon to say what the traffic orders would contain. \par \par }{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057 Cycle Route, Plymouth to Exeter (Bickington)}{\f0\fs22\lang2057 \endash A check by DCC found that the signage was adequate. A further check by NACG came to an opposite conclusion.
