\par }{\f0\fs22\lang2057 The meeting considered what seemed to be a generally unsatisfactory situation. Since Matthew Steele had left the employment of DCC there had been no Highways Engineer to attend the meetings and generally support the group.
\par It was noted with some dissatisfaction that DCC are undertaking what they see as improvements for cyclists and other road users but have not consulted with the group to see if it meets the needs of cyclists in the Newton Ab
bot area.  They are also carrying out general road maintenance where for little or no extra funding changes to the road design could be made that would enhance the lot for those on bikes.

d between these points when travelling towards the town centre. Also Advances Stop Lines could have been put in some lanes at the 2 sets of traffic lights. Now the road has been marked there is no chance of achieving this objective.}{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057

\f0\fs22\lang2057 The new roundabout at the Teignmouth end of Longford lane has been installed with no consultation.  It was accepted that it is an improvement on the old \ldblquote T\rdblquote 
 junction layout.  However when cyclists are approaching this roundabout f
rom the Teignmouth direction and wish to go into Kingsteignton there is a need to put in a short cycle path that allows cyclists to by-pass the pinchpoint at the give way line.  They are going uphill; travelling relatively slower then motorised vehicles a

\par While the Chief Engineer at the Forde Road Office, Graham Heath, had said that cyclists could always talk to him if they had a problem this reactive approach was seen to be less than satisfactory. Cyclists needed a pr
oactive system in place to have confidence}{\b\f0\fs22\lang2057  }{\f0\fs22\lang2057 in the planning process.
\par It was noted that there are a number of major schemes being planned for the area, in particular between Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton, that will affect the road network and the NACG members wanted to be involved in the decision making process.

etent cyclists and at the same time getting at least 1 hours exercise. Providing that the end results are successful there ought to be further courses arranged.

\par }{\f0\fs22 It was suggested that an audit of the facility should be undertaken.  In particular 2 points were raised, though an audit may uncover more valid points: -

Cyclists travelling between the Avenue and Balls Corner pass a number of commercial properties th
at have exits across the path and they also have walls at 90 degrees to the path. This means that drivers leaving and cyclists on the path have restricted visibility of each other of the vehicle is close to the wall.  It was suggested that some form of po
st and chain, typically 1m long should be put in so that vehicles have to keep clear of the wall.

avel Plan but not too much progress had been made.  Hopefully when the building work had been completed some semblance of normality would return and the Travel Plan would be completed for the benefit of those who wanted to cycle to and from school.
